This is a very unique hand knotted Berber Glaoui rug from the mountainous Middle Atlas region of Morocco. Made on a traditional loom by one woman using freshly sheared natural wool. A double sided rug, this rug takes more than one month to complete. This amazing rug contains three distinct styles combined: knotted, woven and embroidered. Each knot needs to be individually tied and cut; the women are only able to create one meter in three weeks. The traditional tribal symbols on this rug are indicative of tattoos that once decorated indigenous Berber women's faces. Hand-dyed using natural dyes that do not fade. Set in 100% natural wool, sheared from a living sheep. This rug was created in the late 1900s. Measures: 5 x 7 ft.
