This authentic vintage Moroccan wool rug is known as a Hanbal rug. Made from natural wool, this rug is said to be more than 75 years old but is in very good condition. The motifs found on the rug and their meanings are part of a tradition that remained mostly independent, as the many different Berber tribes preferred to remain isolated in their settled or semi-nomadic communities. There are three important strong colors in this rug: the color red signifies a dry hard life; blue means water, raining, a good year; green is used to represent the landscape. The all-over mountain motif is the heritage of the Berber Community. Moroccan rugs are often a decor must-have for design enthusiasts because they tend to be one-of-a-kind, statement-making pieces that give any room a special feel. Their tones range from extraordinarily vibrant to neutral, in either distinct patterns or more freeform designs. Often boasting patterns that symbolize fertility, survival, and the natural world, these handcrafted works of art are much more complex than your everyday rug. Due to their understated elegance and endless variety, they work just as well with contemporary maximalist interiors as they do with relaxed, eclectic settings. Hand-dyed using natural dyes that do not fade. Set in 100% natural wool, sheared from a living sheep. Completely reversible -- can use both sides. Measures: 2m 63cm by 1m 55cm This rug was created circa the early 1940s, according to the source.  Measures about 8.5ft x 5ft.
